PI

When Mathematics takes shape in everyday objects.

Pi (pi Greco) expresses the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It is called “Archimedes’ constant” because in the third century B.C. the great scientist from Siracusa made this calculation with extremely high precision for the knowledge of the time, discovering exactly the first two digits after the decimal point (3.14) that we all know. This has remained unsurpassed for centuries. Without pi today we would be unable to live: it is indispensable for lighting our homes, for running our televisions, computers, mobile phones, aeroplanes, medical equipment and a host of other things in every field of research and human activity.
